Arsenal forward Gyökeres wins top scorer award

Arsenal striker Viktor Gyökeres has won the Gerd Müller Trophy, awarded to the top-scoring player in European football for club and country during the 2024–25 season.
The 27-year-old scored 54 goals in 52 games for Portuguese club Sporting last season, along with nine goals in six Nations League matches for Sweden.
He joined Arsenal in a deal worth up to £64 million during the summer.
The exact criteria for the award are not publicly known, meaning the winner remained uncertain before the ceremony—even though the award is based on statistical performance.
Last season’s award was shared between Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane and Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé (for his performances at PSG), with 52 goals each.
Previous winners of the award, which was launched in 2021, include Robert Lewandowski (twice) and Erling Haaland.
