Ashiru rejects claims of losing APC senatorial ticket, alleges misinformation

By Mosunmola Ayobami, Ilorin

Deputy Senate Leader and Senator representing Kwara South, Lola Ashiru, has rejected claims that he lost the All Progressives Congress senatorial primary in Offa Local Government Area.

Ashiru, through a statement issued by his legislative aide, Olaitan Adeyanju, said the people of Offa turned out massively in support of his candidacy during the primary election.

The senator accused some political actors of spreading false narratives and engaging in propaganda to distort the outcome of the exercise and mislead members of the party.

According to the statement, there had been no universally accepted and transparently coordinated announcement of the final results across all levels of the primary election.

Ashiru maintained that the show of support witnessed across Offa reflected the loyalty and confidence party members and grassroots supporters still have in his leadership.

“We have watched with concern the deliberate attempts by some desperate political actors to twist the narrative surrounding the APC primary election in Offa Local Government Area,” the statement said.

The statement also criticised alleged premature victory claims by some aspirants, warning against attempts to create confusion within the party and influence stakeholders through what it described as questionable narratives.

Ashiru, however, urged APC members and the public to remain calm and allow due process to prevail, insisting that he remained committed to the peace, unity and continued development of Kwara South.
