ASNAT defends ITF’s SUPA programme, slams former DG over fraud allegations

By Adeola Ogunrinde –
The Association of Nigerian Artisans and Technicians (ASNAT) has condemned recent attacks on the Skill Up Artisans (SUPA) programme, implemented by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) under its current Director-General, Dr Oluwatoyin Afiz Ogun. The group criticised the former ITF Director-General and members of the Concerned Citizens Advocates for Institutional Accountability for describing the SUPA initiative as fraudulent.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, ASNAT National Coordinator, Mr. Adeshina Akinyemi, described the allegations as baseless and politically motivated. He said the SUPA programme has significantly improved the skills and productivity of artisans and technicians across the country.
“We pass a vote of confidence on the programme and commend the ITF’s leadership for the excellent implementation of SUPA. It is disappointing that some individuals, clearly acting out of personal grudges, would label such a transformative programme as a fraud,” Akinyemi stated.
He alleged that the so-called Concerned Citizens Advocates group was acting as a front for the former ITF DG, who is bitter over his inability to influence or control the current leadership. Akinyemi called on the public, National Assembly, and President Tinubu to disregard the accusations and focus on the achievements under Dr Ogun’s leadership.
Akinyemi also commended President Tinubu for introducing the SUPA initiative, describing it as vital to national development and aligned with the Renewed Hope agenda. He urged the government to continue supporting skill-based programmes that drive economic growth.
ASNAT pledged continued collaboration with ITF to advance the interests of artisans and technicians. They called on stakeholders to support the Federal Government’s efforts in developing a robust technical workforce.
Lady President of ASNAT, Mrs. Jaiyeola Olatunji, revealed that 100,000 artisans have already been trained under the programme, with a new phase set to begin next week. National Secretary, Mr. Bari Moses, said the goal is to bring Nigerian artisans up to global standards.
