Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged winner of the African Democratic Congress presidential primary in Ondo State, defeating former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-deen.
The result of the exercise, conducted across the 203 political wards in the state, was announced by the electoral officer, Samuel Ajibola, who declared Atiku winner after polling 18,287 votes.
Amaechi came second with 6,031 votes, while Hayatu-deen secured 837 votes in the primary election.
Ajibola said Atiku recorded the highest number of valid votes cast by eligible party members in the state, thereby emerging victorious in the contest.
Reacting to the outcome, the Ondo State Chairman of the ADC, Bahorun Tola Alabere, said the party was fully prepared for the 2027 general elections following the emergence of its candidates.
Alabere expressed confidence that the ADC would provide strong opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress, adding that Nigerians were dissatisfied with the current economic situation and insecurity in the country.
According to him, the party had enough issues to present before the electorate, including hardship, insecurity and rising cost of living, which he said had made life difficult for many families.
He also alleged that attempts were made to weaken the ADC through litigations and internal crises, but maintained that the party was gaining more supporters daily and remained optimistic of recording major victories in future elections.
