Atiku is ‘Africa’s most infamous election loser’ — APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly rebuked former Vice President Atiku Abubakar following his recent social media comments claiming that the 2023 presidential election was “stolen” from him.

Atiku, the former presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to contest the results of the election, sparking wide reactions from various quarters. This prompted an official response from the APC, which labeled him as “Africa’s most infamous election loser.”

In a statement signed by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, the party described Atiku’s continued contestation of his defeat as “beyond comical.”

Morka pointed out Atiku’s long history of electoral losses, noting that, since his tenure as vice president, he has been defeated by every Nigerian president elected over the last 17 years.

“Atiku’s inability to accept the reality of his rejection paints a troubling portrait of extreme and disturbing political desperation,” the APC statement read.

It further suggested that his refusal to accept defeat indicates an overpowering drive for power that could undermine national interests.

The APC also referenced corruption controversies surrounding Atiku’s tenure as vice president, accusing him of playing a role in the creation of the fuel subsidy system, which they argue has harmed Nigeria’s economy.

In addition, the statement cited former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s critical remarks about Atiku’s trustworthiness and referred to what it termed the “chronic dysfunction” of the PDP under Atiku’s leadership.

The APC urged Nigerians to continue supporting President Bola Tinubu’s administration, praising its efforts to tackle Nigeria’s economic challenges and restore stability.

The party also dismissed Atiku’s recently released “What I Would Do Differently” plan as outdated and irrelevant to Nigeria’s current needs, asserting that he had ample opportunity to implement his ideas during his vice presidency but “failed fantastically” to do so.
