BREAKING: Atiku picks Okowa over Wike as PDP presidential running mate

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has picked Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate in the 2023 general elections.
Atiku announced this on this Twitter page on Thursday.
“I am delighted to announce Governor @IAOkowa as my Vice Presidential candidate. I look forward to travelling our great country together, engaging with all Nigerians and building a shared future of peace, unity, and prosperity for all. As One We Can Get It Done. #OneNigeria. -AA,” he tweeted.
The selection committee set up by the party for that purpose, however, preferred Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
WesternPost gathered that at the meeting of the screening committee, Wike polled 16 votes to defeat Mr Okowa who scored three votes when the matter was put up for voting.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had given parties until Friday to submit the names of their presidential and vice presidential candidates to the commission’s portal.
Wike had placed second behind Atiku at the PDP presidential primaries held last month at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
