Atiku reacts to Supreme Court verdict on ADC, says ‘victory belongs to Nigerians’

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has described the recent judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria on the leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a victory for Nigerians, while warning that the broader political struggle is far from over.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Atiku welcomed the court’s decision, which affirmed the leadership position associated with former Senate President David Mark, but cautioned party members and supporters against complacency.

“Even as we welcome the Supreme Court’s firm affirmation of David Mark and the leadership of our great party, the African Democratic Congress, let no one be lulled into complacency. The road ahead remains long in our cause to take back and rescue our country,” he said.

He added that the judgment transcends party lines, attributing the outcome to the resilience of Nigerians.

“This victory belongs to Nigerians, the courageous millions who refuse to surrender their future. We thank them, and we urge them to remain steadfast, because the struggle is far from over,” Atiku stated.

The Supreme Court on Thursday reinstated the leadership of the ADC under former Senate President David Mark.

According to reports, the court set aside an earlier decision of the Court of Appeal which had ordered parties in the dispute to maintain the status quo. The Supreme Court held that the appellate court acted beyond its jurisdiction by issuing such an order after dismissing the case, describing the move as “unnecessary, unwarranted and improper.”
