Ayra Starr breaks 16-year jinx to win ‘Best African Music Act’ at MOBO Awards

Mavin Records singer Ayra Starr made history at the 2025 MOBO Awards by breaking a 16-year jinx.
The 22-year-old artist took home two prestigious awards: Best International Act and Best African Music Act at this year’s Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards.
Her win in the Best International Act category marks a historic milestone, making her the first African female artist to receive the honor.
She also became the first female winner in 16 years in the Best African Music Act category.
The 2025 MOBO Awards also recognized other talented artists, including Darkoo (Best Female Act), Central Cee (Best Male Act), 90s Baby Show (Best Media Personality), and Odeal (Best Newcomer).
