Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s unmatched sense of humor, by Olabode Opeseitan

I doubt if there’s any Governor in Nigeria today who can match Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s sense of humor.

At a public function, Pastor Remote, the comedian famous for ambushing people with “prophetic” pranks, spotted the Governor and launched his trademark greeting:
“Abo Olorun ko daju lori yin” (May God’s assured protection be upon you).

Without missing a beat, Sanwo-Olu fired back with the same line, even grabbing a file and mimicked Pastor Remote’s habit of tucking files under his armpit. The crowd was already in stitches.

But Pastor Remote wasn’t done. He dipped into his bag of spiritual mischief:
“As I was showering, the Lord revealed unto me. He said a man wants to be President. I asked, ‘President of which country?’ The voice said USA. I was shocked. I repeated, USA? The voice said Jide. I asked, curious, ‘Who is so called?’ Then I heard… Sanwo. I shouted, Ah! Baba, congratulations!”

Now, Yoruba people call it ajanbale when someone delivers an instant, razor-sharp response. Sanwo-Olu didn’t disappoint:
“Iwo ni Vice. Go and have the dream again.”
(You are the Vice President. Go back and dream properly.)

Pastor Remote was astonished. He tried to wriggle out: “That’s vice versa!”

In one last ditch effort before he eloped, overwhelmed, Pastor Remote said:
“There’s no one I ever prayed for, and the prayer was not answered.”

The Governor insisted, telling Pastor Remote, “Ani iwo ni Vice (I insist, you are the Vice). Pastor Remote knew he lost this one, saying, “Congratulations to us Sir.”

The hall erupted. Pastor Remote was floored. Lagosians laughed till their sides hurt.

Sanwo-Olu didn’t just win the exchange. He proved that beyond bridges, trains, and rice mills, Lagos has a Governor who can spar with comedians and still come out on top.
