Bagudu hails World Bank’s role in strengthening Nigeria’s social services

Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, has lauded the World Bank’s Programme-for-Results (PforR) instrument for enhancing the Federal Government’s delivery of social services to Nigerians.
Bagudu made the commendation on Monday when he received a delegation from Senegal’s Ministry of Health and Social Action in his office in Abuja.
Introduced in Nigeria in 2015, the PforR instrument is designed to strengthen accountability, transparency, and sustainable programme delivery across key sectors. The Minister noted that Nigeria has successfully implemented several PforR initiatives in health, governance, and economic empowerment.
According to him, the programme has also encouraged the National Assembly and state governments to allocate more resources to critical sectors of the economy, thereby demonstrating the value of effective spending.
He added that the initiative had fostered greater collaboration among ministries to achieve shared development goals.
Speaking earlier, the leader of the Senegalese delegation, Dr. Abibou Ndiaye, Technical Advisor at Senegal’s Ministry of Health, said their visit was aimed at learning from Nigeria’s experiences in rolling out various PforR programmes.
During the meeting, coordinators from the Ministry presented highlights of key initiatives, including Saving One Million Lives (SOML), Nigeria Community Action for Resilience (NG-CARES), and the Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equality (HOPE) programme in education, governance, and health.
The Senegalese delegation is on a study tour to Nigeria to examine the country’s successes and challenges in implementing PforR programmes, with a view to replicating lessons in Senegal.
