Bala Mohammed, Peter Obi discuss economy, national unity in Bauchi meeting

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has revealed that his recent meeting with former presidential candidate Peter Obi focused on key national issues, including economic recovery and the welfare of citizens.
Mohammed disclosed this in a statement on Thursday following the closed-door meeting held at the Government House in Bauchi, which he described as timely.
According to the governor, both leaders deliberated on strategies to address Nigeria’s economic challenges and improve living conditions for citizens across the country.
He revealed that the engagement also provided an opportunity to assess the current political climate and the need to strengthen democratic institutions.
“The discussions centred on critical national issues, including economic recovery and the welfare of our citizens. We also reviewed the evolving political landscape and emphasised the urgent need to strengthen our democratic institutions,” Mohammed said.
He commended Obi for the visit, stressing that dialogue among political leaders remains crucial in tackling the country’s challenges and fostering mutual understanding.
The governor added that both parties agreed on the need for political actors to prioritise national interest above partisan considerations.
The meeting comes amid growing political consultations and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
