Bianca Ojukwu reminisces on late husband, Dim Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu
Bianca Ojukwu, the widow of late Biafran leader Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, has shared a heartfelt tribute to mark the 13th anniversary of his passing.
In a heartfelt post on her Instagram page, Bianca reflected on the enduring legacy of her husband and the profound loss felt by his family and the Igbo community.
“This has got to be every woman’s nightmare—the day you lose your better half,” she wrote. “The day you have to tell your children that the man they were privileged to call ‘Dad’ is gone forever.”
Bianca recounted the events of November 26, 2011, describing it as the day the “General of the People’s Army” embarked on a final journey “from which there would be no return.”
She expressed gratitude for God’s sustaining power through the years, highlighting the strength she has drawn as a widow. She also recalled the grandeur of Ojukwu’s funeral, which brought together African leaders, Nigerian dignitaries, religious figures, global icons, and international media in a celebration of his life and legacy.
Quoting the late British novelist and Ojukwu’s close friend Frederick Forsyth, Bianca wrote, “You can bury a man, you can bury a body, but you cannot bury a legend.” Forsyth’s words reflected Ojukwu’s decision to stand with his people during the crisis of 1966, despite his privileged background and wealth.
Bianca noted that her husband’s commitment to his people during those turbulent times solidified his status as Ikemba Ndi Igbo, the voice of the Igbo people. “When you speak of him, speak softly. When you write of him, carve his name with pride,” she added.
Ending her tribute on a personal note, Bianca prayed for Ojukwu’s continued rest in “Heaven’s Land of the Brave,” expressing hope for a future reunion. “Till we meet again, never to part. Amen.”
