2nd Africa Military Games: Team Nigeria shines in shooting events

Team Nigeria has continued its impressive showing at the 2nd Africa Military Games, hosted in Abuja, with stellar performances in the shooting events held at Shittu Alao Barracks, Keffi.

On Day 4 of the competition, the Nigerian shooting team dominated the men’s 200m rifle-prone position, clinching both individual and team gold medals.

Sergeant Moses of the Nigerian Army led the charge in the individual event, scoring a remarkable 217 points to secure the gold medal. Competing on target 9, he took an early lead with an opening round of 52 points and maintained his dominance throughout the event.

Tunisia’s Seif Azizi claimed the silver medal with 208 points, while Algeria’s Bennatia Kheireddine took bronze with 204 points.

In the team event, Nigeria’s dominance was further underscored by the trio of Sergeant Moses, Sergeant Alex Abakwa (155 points), and Stephen Thomas (201 points), all representing the Nigerian Army. Together, they amassed an impressive total of 575 points, securing the team gold medal.

With these victories, Nigeria now leads the shooting medal standings with 16 gold, 9 silver, and 8 bronze medals. Algeria holds second place with 11 gold, 7 silver, and 5 bronze, while Kenya follows in third with 4 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze. Tunisia sits in fourth place with 2 gold, 5 silver, and 8 bronze medals.

The shooting events are set to conclude on Tuesday with the Falling Pan competition, where Team Nigeria is expected to make further gains in their medal haul.
