A Federal Road Safety Corps official sustained a fractured leg after a motorcycle rider allegedly fleeing arrest crashed into him along the Ado-Iyin Road in Ekiti State.
The incident occurred on Thursday, October 1, and involved SMI GM Kolawole of the RS 8.28 Igede Unit Command and the rider, Master Oladapo Success.
The rider was reportedly being pursued by FRSC personnel when he allegedly sped off and rode recklessly before colliding with Kolawole.
Kolawole was immediately taken to a hospital by his colleagues for treatment, while Success reportedly remained at the scene and later pretended to be unconscious.
The development raised concerns that the incident could lead to a confrontation between the FRSC officials and residents, prompting police officers from the New Iyin Division to intervene and restore calm.
Reacting, the Ekiti State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Sanya Adeoye, expressed concern over what he described as reckless conduct by some motorcycle operators and directed the command’s intelligence unit to investigate the incident.
Adeoye said the command would intensify enforcement against traffic violations capable of causing crashes and urged motorcyclists and other road users to obey traffic regulations to protect themselves, other road users and enforcement personnel.
The sector commander, who visited the injured persons in hospital, reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to promoting road safety and reducing crashes in Ekiti while wishing those injured a speedy recovery.
