Bill to establish University of Agriculture in Osun passes second reading in Senate
The Senate on Wednesday, passed for first and second reading a Bill seeking to establish a Federal University of Agriculture and Tropical Studies in Iragbiji, Osun State.
The Bill titled: “A Bill for an Act to establish the Federal University of Agriculture and Tropical Studies, Iragbiji, Osun State and to make comprehensive provisions for its due management and administration and for related matters, 2024” was sponsored by the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central).
Senator Olarere Oyewunmi seconded the Bill. Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Senator Solomon Adeola and other senators also supported the Bill.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio later put the request for the Bill to be read for first and second time to a voice vote which was unanimously approved by Senators present.
The Bill has been referred to the Senate Committees on Agriculture and Tertiary Education and TETFUND. The Committees are expected to report back to plenary in a fortnight.
