Bola Ige’s Murder: My father’s security gave his killers right of passage – Muyiwa Ige

Twenty-three years after notable politician and Nigeria’s ex-attorney general and minister of justice, Bola Ige, was murdered, his son, Muyiwa Ige, has revealed that the security men detailed to protect his father aided his killers in assassinating him.
Muyiwa, during an exclusive interview with Ibadan-based broadcaster Edmund Obilo, narrated how he rushed into his dad’s room and found him lying on the floor.
According to him, 23rd December, 2001, the day murderers stormed their Bodija, Ibadan residence and snuffed life out of the Afenifere leader, remains a black Sunday for the family.
In the gripping and vivid account of the incident, Muyiwa revealed that two assailants, one with a pump-action gun and the other holding a pistol, breached the security apparatus around the house and gained entry to kill the minister of justice at the time.
According to him, Chief Bola Ige was alone when he was killed, as the security personnel attached to him were nowhere to be found, raising the suspicion of connivance and conspiracy in the unsolved murder believed by many to be state-sponsored.
Muyiwa made other significant revelations about the murder.
