Borno Bombings: Shettima visits victims, reaffirms FG support

Vice President Kashim Shettima has visited victims of recent terrorist attacks receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) in Borno State, following a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
During the visit on Wednesday, the Vice President expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives resulting from the attacks and extended his condolences to affected families.
He also sympathised with those injured, assuring them of the Federal Government’s continued support.
Shettima reaffirmed the Federal Government’s solidarity with the people of Borno State, describing the attacks as tragic and emphasising the administration’s commitment to supporting victims and strengthening security efforts in the region.
The visit followed a recent attack in Borno by coordinated a explosion that struck Maiduguri on Monday, marking one of the deadliest incidents in the city in recent years. The blasts, believed to be suicide bombings, targeted crowded civilian locations including the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), the Monday Market and a post office.
At least 23 people were initially confirmed dead, while more than 100 others sustained injuries, with many of the wounded taken to UMTH and other medical facilities for treatment.
Although no group officially claimed responsibility, security sources suspect the involvement of Boko Haram or its splinter group, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), both of which have carried out insurgent activities in Nigeria’s North-East for over a decade.
