Borno bombings: Troops kill 67 terrorists as Tinubu, Starmer to sign defence pact — Dare

Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, says Nigeria is recording major successes in the fight against terrorism, including the killing of dozens of insurgent leaders and the strengthening of defence cooperation with the United Kingdom.
Speaking during an interview on Sky News UK on Thursday, Dare said recent military operations have significantly weakened terrorist groups, particularly in the North-East.
Reacting to recent attacks in Borno State, Dare said the federal government had intensified counter-insurgency operations, leading to the neutralisation of 67 terrorist gang leaders and fighters.
He explained that sustained military pressure is forcing insurgents out of their strongholds and ungoverned territories, leading to isolated attacks as they attempt to regroup.
According to him, President Bola Tinubu has directed service chiefs and top military commanders to remain on the ground to ensure terrorists are continuously dislodged.
“We have seen the quick response of the president, making it clear that Nigeria will never surrender to terrorist groups,” Dare said.
He noted that as security forces continue to dismantle terrorist enclaves, the movement of insurgents into new areas sometimes results in sporadic attacks.
Dare also addressed concerns about religious persecution, saying terrorist attacks in Nigeria affect both Christians and Muslims. He said Nigeria is dealing with transnational terrorist networks linked to instability in the Sahel region, porous borders, and the proliferation of illegal arms.
