Bovi, Mbatha to host AMVCA 2026 as Osakioduwa exits after 11 years

The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) has announced Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha as co-hosts for its 2026 edition, ending the 11-year hosting run of IK Osakioduwa.

The development marks a major shift in the presentation of the awards, as Osakioduwa, who has anchored the show since its inception in 2013, steps down after becoming the most recognisable face of the AMVCA stage.

The 12th edition of the awards is scheduled to hold on May 9, 2026, at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.

Speaking on his new role, Bovi described the opportunity as a significant honour, noting the importance of the platform in celebrating African storytelling.

He said he looked forward to bringing energy, humour and excitement to the event, adding that the AMVCA remains one of the biggest stages on the continent.

Mbatha, an actress, producer and UNHCR goodwill ambassador, is widely recognised for her roles in “Coming 2 America” and the series “Shaka iLembe,” where she also serves as an executive producer.

The organisers also named veteran actress Joke Silva as head judge for the 2026 edition.

Meanwhile, films such as “Gingerrr” and “The Herd” lead the nominations with nine each, followed by “To Kill A Monkey” with eight nominations, while “My Father’s Shadow” secured seven nods across key categories.
