BREAKING: Court grants Sowore ₦200m bail in cybercrime trial

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, in his ongoing alleged cybercrime trial.

Justice Mohammed Umar, who delivered the ruling on Tuesday, fixed the bail at ₦200 million and ordered Sowore to provide two sureties to perfect the conditions.

The court directed that one of the sureties must be a traditional ruler from Sowore’s community, while the second must own landed property in Abuja.

Justice Umar also ordered that the two sureties be verified by the prosecution before the bail conditions can be fully satisfied.

In addition, the judge directed Sowore to deposit his international passport with the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court pending the conclusion of the trial.

Following the ruling, the court released Sowore to his legal team after granting the bail application.

The judge subsequently adjourned the case until July 6, when the court is expected to commence hearing the defence in the alleged cybercrime case.

Sowore is facing prosecution over alleged cybercrime offences, which he has denied. His trial is expected to continue with the presentation of his defence at the next adjourned date.
