BREAKING: NNPP expels Kano lawmaker Jibrin over anti-party allegations

The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled House of Representatives member Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, citing anti-party activities and failure to meet his financial obligations to the party.

Announcing the decision in Kano on Saturday, NNPP state chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, said Jibrin’s repeated public criticism of the party and its leadership left no option but expulsion.

Dungurawa described the lawmaker, who represents Kiru/Bebeji constituency, as a “weak politician” who only secured electoral victory through the Kwankwasiyya movement and NNPP platform.

“If he was truly strong politically, he would have won under the APC, but he failed,” Dungurawa said.

He disclosed that a reconciliation committee had been set up after Jibrin’s appearance on Channels Television but accused him of worsening the situation by declaring loyalty outside the party.

Dungurawa further alleged that Jibrin defaulted in paying mandatory party dues and vowed legal action to recover the funds. “It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so,” he added.

The expulsion comes barely 24 hours after Jibrin hinted he might leave the NNPP, stressing that he was old enough to take independent political decisions.

On speculation that Jibrin may return to the APC, Dungurawa said such a move would not affect NNPP’s strength, insisting the Kwankwasiyya movement remains firmly behind its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
