BREAKING: Pandemonium erupts at Ondo Council Secretariat over leadership tussle

A fresh wave of tension swept through the Owo Local Government Secretariat in Ondo State on Monday as an attack was reportedly launched on the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees chairman, Comrade Adene Adetunji, in an effort to unseat the suspended Council Chairman, Tope Omotayo.

Sources at the scene said the unrest began when some councillors, believed to be dissatisfied with the suspended chairman, gathered at the secretariat in what was perceived as a move to kick-start impeachment proceedings, despite his absence from office.

The development reportedly triggered a confrontation between the councillors and NULGE members present at the council premises during the incident.

In the ensuing clash, a councillor identified as Adenike Agbede was alleged to have assaulted the NULGE chairman by slapping him and striking his eye, further aggravating the already tense atmosphere.

“The situation got out of hand almost immediately. There was shouting and pushing, with different groups taking sides. It was total confusion,” an eyewitness said.
