BREAKING: Peter Obi resigns from ADC, cites internal crises

Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing growing internal crises and external interference within the party.

Obi announced his decision in a statement on Sunday, stressing that his exit was not due to any personal grievances with party leaders.

He said he maintained respect for the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, noting that they had not treated him unfairly.

“Let me state clearly: my decision to leave the ADC is not because our highly respected Chairman, Senator David Mark, treated me badly, nor because my leader and elder brother, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, or any other respected leaders did anything personally wrong to me. I will continue to respect them,” Obi said.

The former presidential candidate, however, expressed concern over what he described as increasing instability within the party, similar to issues he encountered in his previous political platform.

He alleged that forces within the Nigerian political system were fuelling crises in opposition parties, leading to persistent court cases, internal conflicts and divisions.

According to him, such developments distract from addressing national challenges and undermine efforts to build a politics centred on service and nation-building.

Obi added that his decision was taken in the interest of maintaining his political principles, adding that he would continue to engage in efforts aimed at promoting good governance in the country.
