FG: Kano–Jigawa–Katsina–Maradi rail project hits 60% completion, targets 2027 delivery

The federal government has announced that the Kano–Jigawa–Katsina–Maradi railway project is 60 percent complete, with delivery expected by December 2027.

The update was provided on Saturday by Ali Bukar, Resident Engineer for Section Two of the project under the Federal Ministry of Transportation, during an inspection visit by members of the Presidential Media Team led by Sunday Dare in Jigawa State.

Bukar said, “The project has reached 60 percent completion across its two key corridors, with an expected delivery period of December 2027.”

He added that construction work has intensified, particularly along the Kano–Dutse corridor. “Major work is currently focused on bridge construction across key waterways and challenging terrains,” he said.

According to him, “Foundation works, including piling and substructure development for several bridges, have reached advanced stages, while superstructure installations are ongoing in multiple locations.”

The engineer further noted that significant milestones have been recorded along the approximately 104-kilometre Kano–Jigawa section and the Kano–Dutse branch line.

“Track laying, earthworks, and structural components along both alignments are in place,” he stated.

This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information and Public Relations, State House, Abuja.

The visit formed part of a broader tour of federal and state government projects across Nigeria’s Northwest, organised by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors under the leadership of Hope Uzodimma.

Bukar also disclosed that the railway project is fully funded under the Renewed Hope Infrastructure initiative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

During the tour, the inspection team visited several state government projects, including an interchange flyover in Tal-Udu, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State, and an ongoing waterline project from Kapin Chiri Dam aimed at boosting irrigation farming.
