BREAKING: President Tinubu orders limits on government convoys to cut costs

By Kunle Sanni

President Bola Tinubu has issued new directives aimed at reducing the cost of governance by limiting ministers, ministers of state, and heads of federal agencies to a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys.

This move is part of a broader cost-cutting effort announced today by the presidency, as revealed in a statement by Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the president also directed that no additional vehicles will be provided for movement, and each official is restricted to five security personnel—four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer.

The President’s new directive builds on earlier efforts to curb government spending. In January, he reduced his entourage for foreign trips from 50 to 20 officials and cut the Vice President’s entourage to five officials for international trips. For local travel, Tinubu limited his entourage to 25 officials and the Vice President’s to 15.

In the directive issued today, the President instructed the National Security Adviser to collaborate with the military, paramilitary, and other security agencies to establish appropriate reductions in the use of vehicles and security personnel across government operations.

The president emphasized that all affected officials are required to comply with these measures immediately, highlighting the urgency of the government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility.
