BREAKING: Shiroro Power Transmission – No billing for those affected by blackouts — Adelabu

By Kunle Sanni

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has announced that those affected by the prolonged outages, which left parts of Kano and Kaduna in darkness for several weeks, will not be required to pay any charges or bills for that period.

Adelabu made this statement in response to the recent blackout issues primarily impacting northern regions of the country due to problems with the Shiroro–Kaduna transmission lines 1 and 2.

Speaking to State House correspondents on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Adelabu said the decision aims to relieve the financial burden on residents who endured extended power disruptions.

“For the days when they experienced blackouts, no customer – whether household, office, or industrial – should be billed,” he stated.

On Friday, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported that towers T133 and T136 suffered extensive damage, disrupting electricity supply to parts of the North-West, including Kaduna and Kano.

The incident was first noticed when one of the transmission lines tripped, followed shortly by the other. TCN subsequently mobilized local vigilante groups to increase patrols around the affected areas.

TCN’s Shiroro Regional Office confirmed that the cables were severely compromised at multiple points.
