BREAKING: Tinubu rewards D’Tigress with OON honour, $100,000, housing

President Bola Tinubu on Monday conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their historic victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the President also announced a cash reward of $100,000 for the team, while an additional $50,000 (in naira equivalent) was awarded to the team’s technical crew.

As part of the reward package, each player will receive a flat in the Renewed Hope Housing Estate.

D’Tigress secured their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title after defeating Mali 78–64 in Sunday’s final held in Côte d’Ivoire.

The team returned to Nigeria on Monday and was warmly received at the forecourt of the Presidential Villa in Abuja around 5 p.m. by Vice President Shettima and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
