Breaking: Tinubu swears in Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance

President Bola Tinubu on Monday swore in Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The oath of office was administered at about 2:30 p.m. inside the President’s office during a brief ceremony attended by top government officials, according to a source present at the event.
The development comes five days after the Senate confirmed Oyedele’s nomination following his screening by lawmakers.
Earlier, Oyedele had arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 2:09 p.m. alongside his wife. He was dressed in a navy-blue suit, while his wife appeared in white traditional attire as they passed through security clearance.
The Senate had confirmed his appointment on Wednesday, March 12, through a voice vote after a screening session that lasted more than two hours. Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the confirmation after the Committee of the Whole adopted the report.
President Tinubu had initially forwarded Oyedele’s nomination to the Senate on March 3 in a letter addressed to the Senate President, seeking confirmation in line with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution.
Oyedele, 50, is a native of Ikaram Akoko in Ondo State and brings over 20 years of experience in fiscal policy, taxation and public finance management.
Prior to his appointment, he chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, which was tasked with restructuring Nigeria’s tax framework. The committee, inaugurated in August 2023, developed four executive bills aimed at streamlining Nigeria’s complex tax structure by reducing more than 60 taxes to fewer than 10 consolidated laws.
