Oyedele arrives Aso Rock for swearing-in as Minister of State for Finance

The Minister-designate of State for Finance, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, on Monday arrived at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja, ahead of his swearing-in by President Bola Tinubu.
Oyedele arrived at about 2:09 p.m. alongside his wife and was cleared by security officials at the Villa. He was dressed in a navy-blue suit, while his wife wore white traditional attire.
His inauguration comes five days after the Senate confirmed his nomination and 13 days after President Tinubu initially forwarded his name for the ministerial position.
The Senate confirmed Oyedele’s appointment on Wednesday, March 12, through a voice vote following an extensive screening session that lasted over two hours. Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the confirmation after the Committee of the Whole adopted the recommendation.
President Tinubu had earlier, on March 3, transmitted Oyedele’s nomination to the Senate in a letter addressed to Akpabio, seeking confirmation in line with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution.
Oyedele, 50, is from Ikaram Akoko in Ondo State and brings more than 20 years of experience in fiscal policy and tax administration to the role.
Before his nomination, he served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he led efforts to restructure Nigeria’s tax system. The committee, inaugurated in August 2023, produced four executive bills aimed at reducing over 60 different taxes to fewer than 10 consolidated tax laws.
