US mandates Nigerian visa applicants to disclose social media history

The United States government has directed all visa applicants to provide details of their social media activity spanning the last five years.

According to a post by the U.S. Mission in Nigeria on X, sighted by WESTERN POST, applicants are required to list all usernames or handles they have used on every social media platform within that period when filling out the DS-160 visa application form.

The Mission noted that applicants certify the accuracy of their submissions before signing and submitting the form, warning that failure to disclose social media information could result in visa denial and possible ineligibility for future applications.

The post reads, “Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used from the last 5 years on the DS-160 visa application form.

“Applicants certify that the information in their visa application is true and correct before they sign and submit. Omitting social media information could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future visas.”
