Bricklayer remanded in Osun over alleged rape of woman with special needs

A 38-year-old bricklayer, Olusola Busayo, has been remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre by a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, over an alleged rape.
Busayo was arraigned on Tuesday by the Nigeria Police, Osun State Command, on a one-count charge of rape, contrary to the provisions of the Osun State Criminal Code.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Adejola Adesuyi, told the court that the defendant unlawfully had carnal knowledge of a woman with special needs on January 13, 2026, at about 12:30 p.m. at Peace Highland Community, Ilesa, Osun State.
He alleged that the defendant induced the victim and defiled her at a building under construction without her consent.
Adesuyi said the offence is punishable under Section 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. I, Laws of Osun State, 2002. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Defence counsel, Kehinde Adepoju, applied for bail, but the prosecutor opposed the application, arguing that allowing the defendant access to the victim could reignite trauma and aggravate the alleged injuries.
In his ruling, the presiding Chief Magistrate, O. Daramola, ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre and adjourned the case until February 27, 2026, for mention.
Speaking with relatives of the victim, who pleaded anonymity, one of them said the alleged rape occurred while the victim was asleep. She added that Busayo had been hired by her husband as a bricklayer to work in their compound and allegedly committed the act in her house, knowing that she was ill and unable to speak.
