British High Commission supports Nigeria Rugby Federation with equipment

The British High Commission has donated balls, boots, jerseys, and other sporting gear to the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF), reinforcing UK–Nigeria ties and supporting the growth of rugby in the country.
The donation, made in partnership with UK charity SOS Kit Aid, aims to promote rugby development across emerging nations. At the presentation, British Deputy High Commissioner Gill Lever praised Nigeria’s rise in the rugby rankings—from 24th to 8th in Africa within three years—and highlighted the sport’s ability to foster inclusion and resilience.
“I’m particularly impressed by efforts to involve more women in rugby. Nigeria has real potential to climb the global rugby ladder,” she said.

A representative of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Alhaji Mohammed Maigidasama, thanked the UK for the gesture and urged similar support for other sports federations.
NRFF General Manager Azeez Ladipo expressed appreciation to the British High Commission and SOS Kit Aid for the initiative, noting that the kits were delivered at no cost to Nigeria.
Under the leadership of Dr. Ademola Are, Nigerian rugby has made major strides: launching the girls-only Rugby Rising Play Programme, hiring elite coach Steve Lewis, and winning the President’s Cup against Ghana.
