British High Commissioner assures Nigerian diaspora of safety amid UK unrest

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, has assured the large diaspora population of Nigerians in the UK of their safety and security. He made this statement following the recent disorder in several cities across the United Kingdom.
During a meeting with the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in Abuja, Montgomery emphasized the UK’s commitment to protecting all residents, including the Nigerian community.
The unrest follows anti-immigration protests that erupted in response to a mass stabbing incident in Southport, which claimed the lives of three young girls. The United Kingdom is currently experiencing its worst rioting in thirteen years.
Misinformation and anti-immigration sentiments have been the main sources of disturbance, affecting several towns and cities, including Rotherham and Manchester.
In light of the heightened violence, the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advisory for Nigerians planning to travel to the UK.
