Burnley and Leeds United have confirmed their return to the English Premier League following the outcome of Monday’s matches in the Championship.
Burnley clinched promotion with a win that also secured Leeds United’s return to the top flight, while Sheffield United were consigned to the Championship play-offs.
The Clarets extended their unbeaten run to 31 games, with Josh Brownhill scoring twice in a victory that secured a top-two finish alongside Leeds, who had earlier defeated Stoke City.
For Sheffield United, a fourth defeat in five games means they will finish third and must battle through the play-offs to secure the final promotion spot.
Scott Parker’s side have built their campaign on a remarkable defensive record, and the victory also saw them break a 104-year-old club record for their longest unbeaten streak.
Earlier in the day, Leeds—returning after two seasons in the Championship—thrashed Stoke City 6–0 to strengthen their promotion bid.
