CAF draw: Abia Warriors, Kwara United get tough Confederation Cup opponents

By Tosin Omojola –

The opponents of Nigerian duo Abia Warriors and Kwara United FC in the 2025/2026 CAF Confederation Cup have been unveiled.

At the draw conducted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the two teams were handed tough opposition.

Debutants Abia Warriors will face Malian side Djoliba Athletic Club in the first preliminary round.

The winner of that encounter will go on to meet either USFAS Bamako of Mali or Gbohloé-su des Lacs of Togo in the second preliminary round.

Nigeria’s FA Cup champions Kwara United will battle Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko in their first preliminary round clash.

The winner will then face a herculean task against Moroccan side Wydad Club Athletic in the second preliminary round.

The CAF Confederation Cup has remained elusive for Nigeria, as no club from the country has ever lifted the trophy since its inception.
