CAF to take appropriate action in Libya-Nigeria case, says Motsepe

President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, says the body will take appropriate action on the botched Libya versus Nigeria AFCON qualifier.

Motsepe, who made this assertion on Tuesday while speaking about the recent incident involving the Libya and Nigeria teams at Al-Abrag Airport, said the Confederation frowns upon the maltreatment of visiting teams by host teams.

“When there was this problem with the Nigerian national team in Libya, I will not comment on that because there is an ongoing investigation, but I want to emphasise that we will not tolerate such actions. This is something that has been happening for quite some time. Forget the Nigeria-Libya situation for now, as it is being properly investigated, and appropriate action will be taken,” said the CAF president.

He referred to previous incidents where host teams subjected their visitors to traumatic experiences, adding, “This lack of sportsmanship has persisted, and we have not taken effective action.”

The African football governing body is expected to make a decision on the matter on Wednesday after the committee handling the investigation concludes its work.
