Calm returns to Owo Council as acting chairman assumes office

By Boye Oyeyemi –

Peace has returned to the Owo Local Government Secretariat in Ondo State following the suspension of the council chairman, Hon. Tope Omolayo, over alleged gross misconduct and abuse of office.

The Vice Chairman, Hon. Hamed Ibrahim, has taken over as Acting Chairman, calling for unity and cooperation among stakeholders to ensure smooth governance.

Addressing councillors during a meeting on Wednesday, Ibrahim urged political actors to put the interest of Owo above personal differences, assuring that his administration would maintain stability and continuity in governance.

“This is not the time for division or blame. We must put the interests of Owo first, ensuring that this local government continues to function efficiently for the benefit of our people,” he said.

The Acting Chairman acknowledged the challenges surrounding his emergence but vowed to work with the legislative arm to promote peace, discipline, and service delivery.

Responding, the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Doyin Adebayo, pledged the lawmakers’ support for the new leadership, stressing the need to strengthen ties with traditional rulers and address rising security concerns in the area.

The councillors reaffirmed their commitment to accountability and unity, urging residents to cooperate with the acting chairman in building a more stable and progressive Owo Local Government.
