CHAN qualification: Tinubu proud of Super Eagles B, says aide

The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Grassroots Sports Development, Adeyinka Adeboye, popularly known as Zulu, has relayed the President’s commendation to the technical crew and players of the Super Eagles B for securing a spot in the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN). The tournament will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from February 1 to 28, 2025.

Zulu stated that President Tinubu was delighted with the team’s on-and-off-the-pitch performance, praising their grit and resilience during the match.

The Super Eagles B defeated Ghana’s Black Galaxies in a second-leg qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, securing their first CHAN qualification since 2018 with a 3-1 aggregate scoreline.

“I want to inform you, the players and the technical crew, that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is happy with your performance on Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo. Your outstanding display and clinical finishes saw Nigeria qualify for our first CHAN since 2018,” Zulu said.

He highlighted the players’ demonstration of the “true Nigerian spirit,” adding that their achievement had made the country proud. Zulu also assured the team of the Federal Government’s full support as they prepare for the tournament.

“The Federal Government will do all within its power to ensure you receive the necessary support for the tournament in February 2025. Kudos to the coaches, players, and backroom staff for this remarkable feat,” he added.

The home-based Super Eagles’ qualification marks a significant milestone, with their victory over Ghana sparking celebrations nationwide.

The team now shifts focus to preparations for the prestigious CHAN tournament, where they will aim to bring glory to Nigeria.
