Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles will square up against Senegal, Equatorial Guinea, and Sudan in the preliminary stage of the 2024 CAF TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The Eagles were drawn in Group C alongside the trio in the tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda between August 2 and 20, 2025.
Co-host Kenya will face Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, and Zambia in Group A, while Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic are in Group B.
Uganda, Niger Republic, Guinea, Algeria, and South Africa make up Group D of the 19-team tournament, which is exclusively for players plying their trade in the continent’s domestic leagues.
It will be recalled that Nigeria eliminated the Black Stars of Ghana 3-1 on aggregate to qualify for the championship for the first time in six years, having missed the last two editions.
After holding the Ghanaians to a goalless draw in the first leg in Accra, the Nigerians returned to Uyo and defeated the Black Stars 3-1 in the second leg, with goals from Remo Stars’ duo Sadiq Ismail and skipper Nduka Junior, as well as Rangers International’s Isaac Saviour.
The 2024 CHAN was initially scheduled for February 1 to 28 but was postponed to the newly announced dates by CAF.
