Chelle promises to secure World Cup ticket for Nigeria

Newly unveiled Super Eagles coach, Eric Sekou Chelle, has reiterated his commitment to ensuring Nigeria qualifies for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking after his official unveiling in Abuja on Monday, the former Mali national team coach expressed gratitude to those responsible for his appointment.

Chelle, who earned five caps for the Aiglons of Mali during his playing career, represented clubs such as FC Martigues, Valenciennes, Lens, Istres, and Chamois Niortais. He said he is thrilled to take on the role of coaching one of Africa’s most prominent football teams.

“I want to thank my agent, the NFF, the NSC, and indeed all Nigerians for this incredible opportunity. Coaching the Super Eagles of Nigeria is an amazing responsibility, and I do not take this appointment for granted. I am elated and will give my utmost best.

“Football is about scoring goals, so I favor an attacking style. I understand the expectations of Nigerians, and I will work diligently with my assistants to achieve the goal of qualifying the Super Eagles for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”

Chelle also revealed his long-standing admiration for Nigerian football, saying, “Nigeria was my favorite team when I was young.”

Present at the unveiling ceremony were Mr. Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development; Alhaji Sharif Rabiu Inuwa, Chairman of the NFF Technical & Development Committee; Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, NFF General Secretary; Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme, NFF Deputy General Secretary; Coach Augustine Eguavoen, Technical Director; and NFF Congressmen Barr. Paul Edeh and Hassan Wada.

Others in attendance included Dr. Ademola Olajire, Director of Media & Communications (NSC); Mr. Paulinus Anameje, Director of Finance & Administration; Barr. Okey Obi, Director of Legal Services; Ms. Ruth David, Director of Competitions; Mr. Mathew Iyere, Auditor; Mr. Alizor Chuks, Head of Marketing; Mr. Rajan Zaka, Deputy Director of Finance & Administration; Mr. Emmanuel Ayanbunmi, Assistant Director of Protocol; as well as special advisers and assistants of the NSC.
