Chelle to rely on core squad for 2025 AFCON

Nigerian football followers who are expecting more fresh faces in the Super Eagles’ squad for the 2025 African Nations Cup may not see their expectation come to pass after all.

Going by the resolve of coach Eric Sekou Chelle, only a few additions could be drafted into the squad, particularly in areas where injuries have hit some regulars.

Checks have revealed that the Super Eagles’ head coach may have made up his mind to retain the core of his current squad ahead of the Afcon, holding in Morocco.

Despite widespread calls from fans and stakeholders for major changes to the team, Chelle appears set to stick with familiar faces as preparations intensify for the continental tournament.

Speaking on the situation, one of the Super Eagles’ coaches explained that the limited time before the competition makes it difficult to implement wholesale changes to the squad.

“We will try to do our best [at the Afcon]… It is important to keep a group of players that you know,” he said.
