A week after her controversial exit from the Miss South Africa pageant, Chidimma Adetshina has won the 2024 Miss Universe Nigeria, triumphing over 24 other contestants.
The former Miss South Africa contestant was crowned at the event, which took place on Saturday at Eko Hotel in Lagos. Adetshina’s victory marks her as the winner of the second edition of the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, succeeding Mitchel Ugochi Ukachukwu, who won the inaugural edition.
Paula Ezendu, representing Anambra, was named the first runner-up, while Peace Ayegbidan of Ondo took the second runner-up position.
After her win, Adetshina described her new title as a “call for action,” stating, “This crown is not just for beauty but a call for action.”
As the reigning Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma will represent the country at the 73rd Miss Universe pageant in Mexico on November 16.
Adetshina’s participation in the Miss South Africa pageant sparked controversy due to her nationality, leading to a heated debate on social media, with many South Africans calling for her disqualification.
In addition to her pageant aspirations, Adetshina has announced her intention to participate in the Big Brother Naija reality show in 2025.
