Christmas: Police warn NURTW members against violence in Ondo

By Boye Oyeyemi –

The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has urged members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers to shun violence and maintain law and order during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Lawal gave the warning on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ meeting with the leadership of the union in Akure.

He said the engagement was in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, stressing the need for transport workers to remain law-abiding and avoid alcohol or other intoxicating substances while driving.

The police boss noted that responsible conduct by drivers was essential to safeguarding commuters and other road users during the festive period.

He assured residents that the command had strengthened security arrangements, with additional personnel deployed for overt and covert operations across motor parks, highways, and other strategic locations.

Lawal also commended the collaboration between the police and the Federal Road Safety Corps, as well as the support of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in sustaining peace and security in the state.

“All necessary security measures have been reinforced to sustain peace across the state. Consequently, all area commanders, divisional police officers, and tactical team commanders are to remain vigilant and ensure robust security coverage across all areas throughout this period and beyond,” Mr Lawal said.
