The Circular Road Stakeholders Engagement Committee constituted by the Oyo State Government has paid a courtesy visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, to brief him on its activities and seek his guidance.
The committee was set up by Governor Seyi Makinde to address grievances from communities protesting the proposed corridor for the 110-kilometre Ibadan Circular Road project. The visit took place at the Olubadan’s Palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan.
The delegation comprised Ibadan Mogajis, chairmen of the six affected local government areas, representatives of relevant ministries, departments and agencies, as well as officials of the Oyo State New Towns and Cities Development Authority.
Chairman of the committee, Engr. Abduljelyl Adekunle Karheem Mogaji Adanla, said the panel was inaugurated following the governor’s engagement with protesters on November 26, 2025, with a mandate to consult stakeholders, assess complaints and advise the government.
He commended the Olubadan for his foresight in initiating land acquisition for the Circular Road project in the past, describing the move as a foundation that has aided the project’s progress under the current administration.
The Executive Adviser to the Governor on New Towns and Cities Development, Mrs Mofoluke Adebiyi, said the committee had met with representatives of affected persons and carried out assessment visits to communities in Oluyole, Ona Ara, Akinyele and Ido local government areas.
In his response, Oba Ladoja recalled that compensation was paid during the original land acquisition for the project and stressed that those affected by the current expansion should be adequately and promptly compensated in line with prevailing economic conditions.
The monarch also cautioned against land speculators along the project corridor, urged relevant agencies to protect the public, and suggested complementary rail transport and the installation of weighbridges to enhance the project’s economic and transportation value.
