Coker/Aguda Council Manager, Adebimpe Akinola dies days after Somolu Councillor’s death

Barely a week after the death of the elected councillor for Ward F in Somolu Local Government, Mrs. Basirat Oluwakemi Mayabikan, tragedy has again struck the Lagos local government system as the Council Manager of Coker Aguda LCDA, Mrs. Adebimpe Akinola, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025, at age 55 after a brief illness.
Her death was announced by the Forum of Council Managers in a statement issued late Monday.
“With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing away of our dear Chairman, Mrs. Adebimpe Akinola, this afternoon. Monday, 29th September 2025. She was the Council Manager, Coker/Aguda LCDA, until her death,” the statement read.
The Forum also disclosed that the late Akinola, who served as Chairman of the Forum of Council Managers in Lagos State, would be buried according to Islamic rites on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
The Janazah prayer is scheduled for Al-Kitab Mosque, Abosede Onamade Street, Eleshin, after Zuhr Prayer at 1:00 p.m., while the interment will follow at Equitable CDA Muslim Cemetery, Igbe Lara, by 2:00 p.m.

In a statement posted on the facebook page of Coker/Aguda LCDA, the Council Chairman, Ogidan Azeez, had expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Council Manager, describing her as “a pillar of dedication, professionalism, and humility, whose warmth and tireless commitment to service left an indelible mark on the Council and the wider community.”
He noted that her demise was a painful loss not only to Coker-Aguda LCDA but also to all who benefitted from her selfless service and exemplary leadership.
Mrs. Akinola’s death marks the fifth case involving female local government officials in Lagos within two months of the July 27, 2025, inauguration of the current councils in Lagos.
