Collapsed Ilorin bridge demands urgent action — Tracka

A call for urgent intervention has been issued to the Kwara State Government following the total collapse of the Sunday Ademola Community Bridge in Upper Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin South Local Government Area. The outcry, led by Tracka — a civic advocacy platform under BudgIT Foundation — highlights the dire condition of the bridge and the adjoining community road.

Constructed just eight years ago, the bridge has become a hazard due to what residents describe as substandard construction. According to community members, its structural weakness became evident when seasonal flooding began eroding its foundation, eventually rendering it unusable.

“This bridge was never properly built,” a resident said. “It started falling apart as soon as the rains came. Now, not even motorcycles can pass through easily. It’s a daily risk.”

The collapse has disrupted daily life, cutting off access for residents and posing a serious safety threat. Locals are now calling for a complete reconstruction of both the bridge and the connecting road.

In a public appeal to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and Hon. Nuhu Bolakale Podo, Tracka urged immediate government action. They also called on the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to assess the situation and address additional community needs, including access to clean water.

“The people of Sunday Ademola Community deserve better. Infrastructure must not only be built — it must be built to last,” Tracka stated.
