Court arraigns two over alleged theft of cash, foodstuffs in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned two men named Yakubu Kehinde, 28, and Adelusi Tope, 21, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court over alleged involvement in conspiracy, housebreaking and theft.

As disclosed by the prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, the defendants committed the offences on March 5, 2026, at about 10am in Agbado-Ekiti.

Oriyomi alleged that Kehinde, alongside others still at large, unlawfully gained entry into the residence of one Busola Adedoyin, where they reportedly stole cash amounting to N114,000, 10 measures of rice and three measures of beans.

The prosecutor further informed the court that the second defendant, Tope, allegedly broke into the residence of Adepoju Gabriel and made away with N115,000.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 421, 322(a) and (b), and 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

In his response, the counsel to the defendants, Adunni Olanipekun, urged the court to admit his clients to bail, assuring that they would not abscond and would provide reliable sureties.

Ruling on the matter, Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each, with two sureties in like sum while adjourning the case till April 9, 2026, for further hearing.
