Court remands man over alleged rape, robbery in Ondo

An Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered the detention of a man, Austine Emmanuel, at the Olokuta Custodial Centre over allegations of rape, armed robbery and stealing.
The suspect was brought before the court by operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, on charges linked to sexual assault and robbery.
During the proceedings, prosecuting counsel P.O. Nwafor alleged that the defendant, Emmanuel, sexually assaulted a woman identified as Blessing Oko in the early hours of April 5, 2026, at Winners Hotel located on Old Benin Road in Ofosu.
“The accused allegedly had unlawful sexual intercourse with the complainant,” the prosecutor said in court.
The prosecution also claimed that the defendant, on a separate occasion while armed with a knife, dispossessed another victim, Chukwuemeka Chiamaka, of valuables including a mobile phone, clothing items, a speaker and an LG television set.
According to the prosecutor, the alleged offences violated relevant provisions of the Criminal Code and the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Laws of the Federation of Nigeria.
The presiding magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, subsequently directed that the defendant be remanded to enable him secure legal representation, while the case was adjourned till May 18, 2026, for further hearing on the remand application.
