An Akure Magistrate’s Court in Ondo State has remanded a businesswoman, Ogunbote Omolere, popularly known as Lizzy CEO, over alleged fraud involving N6.9 million.
The defendant was accused of obtaining the money from a resident, Ologun Emmanuel Leke, under the guise of securing a Canadian visa for him.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Josephine Anjana, told the court that the suspect and others, currently at large, allegedly committed the offence between February and August 2025 around the NEPA area of Akure.
According to the charge, the defendant allegedly used multiple bank accounts to collect the sum from the complainant for a visa arrangement that was never delivered.
The prosecution said the offences contravened Sections 418, 419, 388 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo State, 2026.
Omolere, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges, while her counsel urged the court to grant her bail pending the determination of the case.
Presiding Magistrate, Mrs Temitope Agnes Adurota, admitted the defendant to bail with conditions, including the submission of her international passport and provision of guarantors who must be senior civil servants not below Grade Level 14.
The court also directed the guarantors to provide certificates of occupancy for properties within Akure metropolis and tax clearance for at least three years, before ordering the remand of the defendant in a correctional facility pending perfection of the bail conditions. The matter was adjourned till June 19 for further hearing.
