Three men were on Wednesday remanded by an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over their alleged involvement in an attempted murder case.
The defendants, identified as Jimoh Ibrahim, Oni Ayodeji and Adeoye Adewale, were brought before the court on allegations bordering on conspiracy and attempted murder.
The prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, informed the court that the incident occurred on April 14 at about 12:30 p.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the trio conspired to assault a welder, Peter Oni, following a dispute over a fabrication job.
According to him, “the victim had earlier been contracted by Ayodeji to produce a pounding machine, which he delivered as agreed.” Apata, however, added that Ayodeji later demanded that the machine be modified into a single-face type, a request that led to a disagreement between both parties.
He further told the court that the disagreement escalated when Ayodeji returned with two others, leading to an attack on the welder. “One of the accomplices reportedly struck the victim on the head and eyes with a rod, causing injuries,” the prosecutor stated.
The offences, according to the prosecution, contravene relevant provisions of the Ekiti State Criminal Law, 2021.
The Chief Magistrate, Taiwo Ajibade, declined to take the plea of the defendants and ordered their remand in a correctional facility. The case was subsequently adjourned till May 22 for mention.
